In this webinar, we invited two experienced Structural Designers, John Woodside and Andrew Derbidge to review the detailing of reinforcement in concrete. It consists of the following two topics:
Steel Reinforcement Detailing to Improve Construction and Buildability
Presenter: John Woodside
There is concern, that there are many engineers that do not get adequate on-site experience to feedback on their design. They are so obsessed with the computer program and the model, they do not realise, the analysis is only half the design process. The other half of the design is putting adequate information onto a drawing that represents what they have analysed, and which is buildable on site. They do not understand reinforcement and how it is produced and fail to read or understand the detailing clauses in AS 3600. They often overdesign, sometimes under design, their detailing is poor, and they lack an understanding of practicalities on site. Many do not understand the risks when concrete structures are not appropriately detailed.
Concrete Reinforcement – Detailing for Designers
Presenter: Andrew Derbidge
With an increasing amount of concrete’s engineering, analysis, and design being done by “black box” software, there’s a concern being increasingly voiced in the industry that today’s structural design engineers are losing touch with some of the fundamentals of reinforcement detailing – not to mention the difficulties encountered on site.
There is often a disconnect between the engineer’s assumptions and expectations; the drawings produced for the builder; and the final detail that meets the engineer, when s/he gets to site, to sign off, on the reinforcement. This presentation looks at some of the tips and tricks available in AS3600 that many engineers overlook; some detailing solutions that can save your client money (and produce more sustainable outcomes); and also looks at some of the traps that need to be avoided.
CPD
This webinar provides 1 hour of CPD. Engineers Australia members may claim this hour of CPD if applicable to their area of engineering practice. This webinar is also recognised CPD for members of other professional bodies with annual CPD obligations. Participants should retain their purchase confirmation as evidence for their CPD records.
