In this webinar, we have two industry leading experts reviewing corrosion protection of reinforced concrete structures.
Corrosion Protection for Reinforced Concrete Structures?
Presenter: Rob Melchers
Field experiences over many decades shows that well-designed and well-made reinforced and prestressed concrete structures should not need corrosion protection, even in marine environments. This experience is supported by recent careful experimental observations. It shows that long-term durability can be achieved by careful attention to several key requirements, both in design and in construction. This work highlights that a re-appraisal is required of the conventional ideas and concepts associated with ‘carbonation’ and with ‘chloride-induced’ reinforcement corrosion and the often-presumed need for ‘corrosion protection’.
Corrosion Monitoring System for Reinforced Concrete Structures
Presenter: Johnny Au
A corrosion monitoring system provides an early warning of corrosion risk and determines optimum timing for intervention (e.g. cathodic protection installation). Once a Cathodic Protection system is installed, a monitoring system is also required to verify the ongoing system performance. This presentation will provide an overview of the technique and application of monitoring systems used in reinforced concrete structures with and without cathodic protection. Case studies will be used to demonstrate the implementation, data evaluation and challenges.
CPD
This webinar provides 1 hour of CPD. Engineers Australia members may claim this hour of CPD if applicable to their area of engineering practice. This webinar is also recognised CPD for members of other professional bodies with annual CPD obligations. Participants should retain their purchase confirmation as evidence for their CPD records.
