Advancing FRP bars as reinforcement for Concrete Infrastructure
Presenter: Allan Manalo – University of Southern Queensland
Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite bars have emerged as an effective internal reinforcement for concrete structures built in or near coastal areas, in aggressive environments and in electromagnetic applications. Several successful field applications have been realised in Australia mainly as reinforcement in concrete structures. This presentation will highlight the state-of-the-practice in research, development, and application of FRP bars in Australia, with the aim of properly informing the engineering community about this alternative high-strength and non-corrodible reinforcing technology. It also provides an overview of the new standard AS 5204:2023- Fibre-reinforced polymer bars, which will ensure structural quality and grade of FRP bars for use in internal reinforcement of concrete components of structures in Australia.
Future-Proofing Structures with GFRP: The Sustainable, Non-Corrosive Advantage
Presenter: Kerolous Kodous – Madewell Products
This presentation will delve into the latest innovations in sustainable reinforcement, focusing on an overview of GFRP – Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer Bars setting new standards in the concrete construction industry. A comprehensive journey through the critical need for GFRP bars in modern construction, highlighting their corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio, and life cycle benefits. It will compare the mechanical performance of GFRP with steel, provide guidance on bending, and provide illustration with relevant projects.
