Presenter(s)

  • Angelo Thurairajah - Webber Designs
  • Robert West - WSP
  • Adam Luciano - Aurecon

In this webinar, we invited three practicing structural engineers to review AS 3600 Concrete Structures Design Standard, and specifically to analyse Sections 8 & 9 Design of Beams and Slabs for Strength and Serviceability, and to illustrate the principles with worked examples.
In the first presentation, Angelo Thurairajah from Webber Designs will cover Capacity Reduction Factors, Rectangular Stress Block Parameters, Minimum strength requirements, Ductility Requirements, Integrity Requirements, Robustness Requirement, Post Tension slab reinforcement at columns, and Shear Design with beam shear example.
In the second presentation Robert West from WSP will cover Transfer slabs and beams- what to look for, Punching shear, Crack control and joints, Slab diaphragms, Traps in software use, and Transfer Slab Design example.
In the third presentation Adam Luciano from Aurecon will cover Detail about Post Tension (PT) design and the requirements around it, PT fundamentals, PT design with RAPT examples (i.e. beams and slabs for strength and deflection), Jointing in PT slab (Construction, temporary and permanent), Co-ordination with façade, Worked examples from Flinders Medical Centre, SkyCity Expansion and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
