The basic requirements of good reinforced concrete detailing are clarity and conciseness. Unfortunately, there has been a steady deterioration in the quality and quantity of drawings supplied for reinforced concrete over a number of years. The net result of poor quality drawings is increased costs in the material supply and construction sectors and unacceptable levels of dispute. Detailing of reinforcement is the interface between the actual design of the concrete structure and what is to be constructed. There is no point in having the most sophisticated analysis and design if it cannot be constructed in the field. Designers must be aware of practical limitations of construction. Detailing is also important for durability, as poor placement of reinforcement leads to insufficient cover and long term problems. Detailing of reinforcement is not taught to designers and yet it is fundamental to the proper design of reinforced concrete. This webinar will focus on the advances made in steel reinforcement detailing in recent years, and updates in accordance with the concrete standards, AS3600 – 2018 and AS5100.5 – 2024, as well as AS4671 – 2019. An overview of the newly revised CIA Recommended Practice, Z6 Steel Reinforcement Detailing Handbook, will also be provided. This document is now in its 50th year of publication and has been part of the engineers’ tool box for reinforcement design for many years.
Steel Reinforcement Detailing Handbook – A Resource for Engineers
Presenter: Eric Lume
This presentation will review the recently released CIA publication “Z6 Steel Reinforcement Detailing Handbook”. It will review its history and evolution, the importance of accurate detailing in both design and construction, materials and properties, details for beams columns and slabs and interpretations of Standards.
Reinforcement Detailing for Proprietary Products
Presenter: Arslan Awan
This presentation will review Precast Wall to Suspended Slab Connections, Coupler Detailing, Supplementary Reinforcement Detailing, and the related requirements in AS 3600 and AS 5216.
Sense 600 – 600 MPa Reinforcing Steels
Presenter: Anthony Ng
Anthony will analyse 600 MPa Reinforcing steels and their position in relation to Sustainability, the size, range and Design Properties, Code Mark, Longitudinal Column Bars, Development Lengths, Pin Diameters and requirements in relation to the National Construction Code, AS 3600 and AS/NZS 4671.
CPD
This webinar provides 1 hour of CPD. Engineers Australia members may claim this hour of CPD if applicable to their area of engineering practice. This webinar is also recognised CPD for members of other professional bodies with annual CPD obligations. Participants should retain their purchase confirmation as evidence for their CPD records.
