Tremie Concrete is used to successfully place concrete in piles and deep foundations. The Tremie method controls segregation of mortar from aggregate and displaces groundwater and sea water from the base of the foundation to prevent its contamination in the fresh concrete. This webinar reviewed current Tremie practice in Australia and New Zealand and compares it with European practice.
Guidance on Tremie Concrete for Deep Foundations – Good Industry Practice Update
The Recommended Practice ‘Tremie Concrete for Deep Foundations’ (Z17) was published by the Concrete Institute of Australia in 2012 and has been used across Australia without any amendments for more than one decade.
The document was developed based on Australian piling and deep foundation practice and provides fundamental guidance on tremie concrete properties, mix designs, testing and placement.
The European Federation of Foundation Contractors (EFFC) and the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) published a Tremie Concrete guide in 2018 (Edition 1) with the latest update released in 2024 (Edition 3). The document was developed with a focus on the European and North American piling and deep foundation industry and includes additional background information about tremie concrete as well as additional concrete testing requirements. This recorded webinar compares the two guidelines and highlights the key differences of both documents. Based on this comparison, it will be possible to assess if Z17 may require an update to reflect good industry practice for tremie concrete in an Australian context and what elements may need to be added to a potential update of Z17.
