Presenter(s)

  • Professor Harry Poulos - Coffey Geotechics & Sydney University

This webinar will provide a summary of some of the basic principles of foundation design, and will emphasize the critical importance of ground characterization and geotechnical parameter assessment. Methods of evaluating the performance of deep foundation systems for tall buildings will then be described, including both simplified and more complex approaches. The foundation design process will be illustrated via an example of tall buildings in the Middle East. These topics will be covered from a geotechnical engineering viewpoint, while recognising that foundation design is an interactive process involving both geotechnical and structural inputs.
