The Australian construction industry, valued at AUD 200 billion, is confronted with an increasing challenge related to the durability and design/service life of concrete structures, particularly in terms of cracking and spalling. The requirement for infrastructure rehabilitation and the growing backlog of aging assets, needs reliable and long-lasting repair materials. Cementitious grouts and mortars are commonly used in such repairs due to their compatibility with substrate concrete, mechanical performance, and durability. However, the Australian construction sector is hindered by fragmented and sometimes conflicting guidance on the specification and use of these materials. This recorded webinar will explore important inconsistencies in fifteen relevant local and national specifications, standards and technical documents available in Australia, focussing on material classification, performance, durability, and application guidelines. A comparative framework is proposed to address these inconsistencies and encourage the harmonization of specifications across authorities.
