Contractor for innovative health project

The main works contractor has been appointed for the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick to build the redeveloped paediatric hospital and a new dedicated cancer research centre.

Planning and design commenced in 2019 and the detailed design was completed late last year followed by indicative planning consent from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

What’s interesting about the design of this project is that it has taken into account feedback from 2000 children, their carers, families, and hospital staff on what matters most to them to deliver an innovative health care facility.

The Randwick health facility will include play areas inside and outside the hospital, single patient rooms, a pet-friendly zone and family-friendly areas to provide an environment that promotes healing.

John Holland will deliver the $658 million project and main works are expected to commence in the coming months with an expected opening of the facility in late 2025. The company is well-placed to deliver this project having been involved in the completion of numerous hospitals across the country. Greenslopes Private Hospital and the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in Queensland; Perth Children’s Hospital; Calvary Adelaide Hospital; Victorian Heart Hospital; and the redevelopment of Royal Hobart Hospital are among John Holland’s healthcare industry projects.

Close to 1200 direct jobs during construction will be created on the Sydney Children’s Hospital redevelopment.
