Super T concrete girders are arriving for the Rockhampton Ring Road project, manufactured by local concrete companies in Central Queensland.
Across the major infrastructure project, 976 girders are being made locally to support the construction of the 17 bridges for the project. Local Central Queensland manufacturers including Stresscrete, and Holcim company, Humes, are delivering the precast girders for all remaining bridge sites on the RRR project.
A major construction milestone for the project is the arrival of the first 150 Super T girders which are earmarked for the Capricorn Highway Connector Bridge, part of the South Package contract awarded to a joint venture between Fulton Hogan and Acciona.
Almost 700 piles have already been driven in to support the bridge, representing about 70% of the total required. The 841-metre structure will be one of 11 bridges in the 11.3 km corridor traversing the Fitzroy River floodplain when completed.
Acciona construction manager Andrew Tindal revealed it is a complex project with multiple work fronts operating simultaneously.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King said, “The Rockhampton Ring Road is showing visible progress on the ground and … construction is continuing to gather pace on key elements of the project, including the Fitzroy River crossing and major bridge works.”
The $1.98 billion Rockhampton Ring Road Project will strengthen flood resilience and support the efficient movement of people and freight, improving safety, and reducing interactions between heavy vehicles and urban traffic.
