Catalyst to driving change for women

A prestigious scholarship has been awarded to the Head of the UTS School of Built Environment by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

The $30,000 Executive Women’s Leadership Scholarship from NAWIC NSW, is awarded to women in construction and this year’s recipient is Jua Cilliers, a Professor of Urban Planning, and the President of Commonwealth Association of Planners in addition to her role at UTS.

An excited Jua shared her news on LinkedIn: “To me, this is like winning the lotto! So thankful for this opportunity! NAWIC NSW, I cannot thank you enough!” She went on to say that Women in Construction are lucky to have the support of “incredible male colleagues.”

“Huge appreciation to Professor Anthony Esposito, Frank D’hondt and Mark Evans for the nomination and Josua (Josh) Pienaar for your continuous support!”

Professor Cilliers was selected from a shortlist of four executive finalists from Mirvac, FDC and MBM. Among her notable achievements are establishing a Women and the Built Environment Network at UTS with plans to expand into a global Leadership Academy for Women in the Built Environment.

NAWIC NSW President Georgia Coulston explained the scholarship is designed to help the next generation of female leaders build the business acumen and skills they need to catapult into positions where they can drive change. The scholarship will enable Professor Cilliers to attend Harvard Business School’s prestigious Women’s Leadership Forum.
