EOI open for Melbourne precinct

Expressions of interest for industry involvement are open for the development of a precinct in North Melbourne, two kilometres from the CBD.

A 13.5 hectare government-owned parcel of land, Arden Central, will be home to 20,000 people within 25 years so a minimum 10% of the future homes is earmarked for affordable housing.

The EOI is for the first stage development of the total 44.6 hectare Arden project. It will focus on the state-owned land surrounding the new Arden Station, which is currently under construction as part of the Metro Tunnel Project, due for completion in 2025. The EOI is open to the private sector, industry, and investors to partner with Victoria’s government in its development.

“The scale of opportunity so close to the city, along with significant government land holdings and exceptional transport connections, makes Arden a unique project for Melbourne,” Development Victoria stated.

The government agency said priority will be given to proposals that deliver quality and affordable housing for diverse residents and key workers and provide options for affordable, build-to-rent, build-to-sell, shared equity, and key worker housing.

The EOI closes on Tuesday, 20 August 2024.
