3D printing Star Wars benches

With 3D concrete printing now a mature enough technology and burgeoning industry, two companies are taking it to the next level and then some by printing massive projects.

Pikus Concrete teamed up with design and engineering firm, HOK, to 3D print concrete seating for a stadium in Utah in the USA.

Named the PIKUS3D and known in-house as the Star Wars Bench, Pikus worked with HOK on the design.

HOK’s Benjamin Kuchinsky was impressed by the speed of the 3DCP as opposed to other means of achieving the design in concrete.

By mid-January, the 3D concrete components have already been shipped and will be installed by BrightView Landscapes’ subsidiary Intermountain Plantings.

After the hardscape is completed, the concrete printed seating will be coated on-site to minimise construction damage to the final two-stage coated finish.

Pikus, which names Sika among its partners, was established in 1999 and expanded into 3D concrete printing in 2017 on a small scale and is now doing bigger things!
