Geopolymer cement is a new kind of cement which uses a different chemistry to that found in traditional Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC).

A geopolymer is made by activating amorphous alumino-silicate materials, such as fly ash and slag, with alkali-based chemicals such as sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate. Geopolymer cement does not need to contain OPC to work.

Geopolymers have been known to be useful binders in concrete for over 60 years, but have recently developed rapidly in Australia due to the fact they have a CO2 footprint which is approximately 80% lower than OPC cement.
