Geotechnical Responses to Slab on Ground: Design and Failure Case Studies
Presenter: Simon Fagg

Concrete slabs on ground move and deform in response to movement of the ground.  Whilst standards such as AS2870 and guidelines such as the Cement, Concrete and Aggregates Australia Guide T48 to Industrial Floors and Pavements provide guidance on the structural considerations, the geotechnical behaviour and treatment is provided only limited comment.  This presentation covers the geotechnical aspects of the design of slab on ground construction, and inspection requirements with examples from resolved legal cases of the consequences of not considering the geotechnical behaviour of the ground below the slab.
