This recorded webinar presents the design of concrete walls in multi-storeyed buildings both above and below ground in two presentations:
Concrete Wall Design to AS 3600
Presenter: Scott Menegon
Reinforced concrete walls are the most common lateral load resisting element in multi-storey buildings in Australia. This presentation will examine the behaviour of reinforced concrete walls under lateral loads and summarise the design options and wall detailing requirements in AS 3600 Concrete Structures. The presentation covers the flexural design of slender walls, strut-and-tie design of squat walls and the seismic design and detailing of walls to Section 14 of AS 3600.
Earth Retention System Design to AS 3600
Presenter: Biju Balakrishnan
Concrete structures have been used traditionally for retention structures such as retaining walls and basements. The design and construction of retention structures are challenging. This is due to the safety aspects during construction and the inherent need for protecting neighbour’s property and assets. This is more critical when the construction is in the city and town centres. By selecting an appropriate construction methodology and retention system, engineers can design an optimum structure complying with codes and standards, which can also be constructed safely. The presentation covers piled retention system design, analysis methods including piles, pile cap, sleepers, and shotcrete to comply with AS 3600 Concrete Structures, AS 2159 Piled Footings and AS 4678 Earth Retaining Structures. Different retention systems, analysis method, design and detailing and its performance are discussed.
CPD
This webinar provides 2 hours of CPD. Engineers Australia members may claim two hours of CPD if applicable to their area of engineering practice. This webinar is also recognised CPD for members of other professional bodies with annual CPD obligations. Participants should retain their purchase confirmation as evidence for their CPD records.
