Gamuda’s joint venture with John Holland has completed its package of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension ahead of schedule.
The JV’s contract involved the Black Hill to Tomago package of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace north of Newcastle in NSW.
The 10km southern section was delivered for Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) and crossed the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway.
“As part of the project scope, our team delivered eight bridges across the project, including a 2.6-kilometre viaduct spanning the Hunter River and surrounding floodplain,” John Holland stated.
The broader M1 Pacific Motorway extension, a continuous 15km link between Black Hill and Raymond Terrace, opened this month, around a year and a half ahead of schedule.
The completion marks Gamuda’s first road project in Australia since the Malaysian global engineering and infrastructure firm established its presence here in March 2019; now with operations across six states.
Jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments, the project has a combined investment of $2.24 billion.
Gamuda Australia CEO Ewan Yee said completing the Black Hill to Tomago package ahead of schedule was a landmark achievement for the group.
“Finishing the Black Hill to Tomago package ahead of schedule is a landmark achievement for Gamuda and a proud moment for our team,” he said.
