Ison Road Rail Overpass project on track

A four-lane road overpass bridge will be built across the Melbourne-Geelong railway line in Victoria’s Wyndham West and Werribee regions, with construction expected to commence in 2023.

Planning and development works are underway for the overpass, with extensive site investigations and environmental studies. These are looking at specific animals and plant species; water, catchments and hydrology; and cultural and historic heritage – Aboriginal and European.

The project will include a shared user path and dedicated bike lanes on both carriageways and provide a vital link to the developing areas of Wyndham West towards the Princes Freeway that goes to Melbourne and Geelong. The project will also reduce congestion in the Werribee Town Centre.

Community consultation on the proposed design and planning pathway attracted more than 4000 participants.

The Victoria and Federal Governments are footing the $114 million bill for the completion of the Ison Road Rail Overpass that will extend south towards Browns Road and connect with a section of Ison Road, which will be constructed by Wyndham Council.
