The impact leaders can have

Aurecon’s sustainability lead in Australia has been named the Chief Sustainability Officer of the Year in the 2022 World Sustainability Awards.

Paul Gleeson, Group Director, Sustainability and Managing Director for Energy, ANZ, beat some stiff competition to be awarded at the recent World Sustainability Congress in Germany.

“The World Sustainability Award judges were impressed by Paul’s clear leadership, his ability to embrace and articulate the importance of decarbonisation and his impact beyond Aurecon,” the company stated.

Paul, a Fellow of Engineers Australia, said he was honoured to be recognised with the award and is clearly passionate about his chosen field.

“The impact that leaders can have in this decade of action for climate change is incredibly important, especially within the design, engineering and advisory services space,” he said.

“We have the opportunity and the knowledge to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change through transition strategies and decarbonisation, and to assess and prepare for the physical impacts using science-based scenario modelling.”

Paul Gleeson was recognised for his work in building a team of 50-plus people from scratch and establishing Aurecon’s sustainability and climate change expertise, and developing sustainability targets, policies and pathways for the company and its clients.
