Event Summary

What are the essential requirements for post tension design and construction in Australia? Where is the industry heading with many changes in standards, material availability, construction needs, design requirements, and accountability. This seminar, presented and supported by CARES and the Post Tension Institute of Australia (PTIA), will update delegates in new directions in post tensioning in Australia around the supply, design and installation for concrete structures.

The seminar will include a large number of international and local experts all in the one room, face-to-face, and is a fantastic opportunity to discuss ideas, ask questions, and connect with prominent post tensioning leaders from around the globe. The half day seminar will include presentations such as:

Presentation 1 - Engineering Out the Leaks in Buildings
Presented by Michael van Koeverden, CQT

Michael’s presentation will include updates on Concrete Balcony Waterproofing including the way engineers design balconies and what the National Construction Code 2025 will be focusing on going forward.

Presentation 2 - Conformity Assessment Model for the Supply and Installation of Post-Tensioning Systems in Concrete Structures in Australia and New Zealand
Presented by Peter Tonkin, CARES

Peter's presentation will include the quality defects that are relevant in the industry at the moment and how the APT (Australia Post Tensioning) scheme is improving the awareness of quality defects and what the PT industry should be looking for when engineers, builders and developers are engaging PT subcontractors on how the PT system meets the requirements of the CARES Model Specification and industry standards.

Presentation 3 - Risk Management for Consulting Engineers
Presented by Tim Peters, Edge Consulting Engineers, and Nick Codd, Austbrokers Professional Services

The presentation will focus on those aspects of PT installation and construction that the engineer does not have direct control over or a supervisory role, yet are critical to the long-term performance of the structure. How CARES can give some comfort by assessing and monitoring these processes. The insurers will then speak on the impact on PI policy renewal when the engineers proactively address the matter in their specifications - such as specifying CARES accreditation for subcontractor.

Presentation 4 - Updates from the NSW Fair Trade Building commissioner office
Presented by Jason Li and Nedah Mirzadeh, Building Commission NSW

The presentation will focus on updates from the NSW Fair Trade Building commissioners officer around the Design and Building Practitioners Act and auditing of designs.

Presentation 5 - TfNSW Post Tensioning QA Specification
Presented by Hamid Yekta, Transport for NSW

Hamid's presentation will take a detailed look at Transport for NSW's post tensioning QA specification, and in particular focus on the expectations around product quality from the client's perspective.

Presentation 6 - An international perspective on enabling constructional steel supply chain traceability and accessing key product information
Presented by Andrew Wheeler (ACRS) and Ladin Camci (CARES)

Andrew and Ladin’s presentation will include how a Cloud-based digital solution was developed to bring simplicity to a complex supply chain while restoring trust where it is missing.
