Walking on sunshine

Construction is about to begin on a new pedestrian bridge over the North Maroochy River in Queensland.

The state’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has partnered with the Sunshine Coast Council on the $6 million project.

The two organisations developed the design for the bridge along with 290 metres of boardwalk and pathway as an alternative route for locals commuting along the Eumundi-Noosa Road which offers less than a metre of pedestrian space.

The new bridge will sit alongside the existing road bridge on the Eumundi-Noosa Road, on the southern side near Seib Road.

Sunshine Coast Council says it will lead the project through the construction phase as the new infrastructure will form part of the local road and pedestrian network.

Locals have been waiting 20 years for the construction of the bridge, which is expected to be complete by mid-2025, weather permitting.
