Canberra’s new lyric theatre is currently under construction by Multiplex for the ACT Government. More than 200 shoring piles and around 75 footing piles are being installed, including eight footing piles for two tower cranes, the first of which will be installed this month.
The $95 million Mount Lindesay Highway Upgrade (Jimboomba duplication) in South-East Queensland has been completed on time and within budget by See Civil. The project included widening a 1.5 km stretch to four lanes and building a new south-bound bridge over a disused rail corridor.

Former CEO and MD of Seymour Whyte, John Kirkwood, has been recognised for a lasting contribution to the construction industry at the 2026 Queensland Major Contractor Association’s (QMCA) Innovation and Excellence Awards.
The globally recognised specification PAS 2080: 2023 for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure has been awarded to Laing O’Rourke by BSI. The company has also been awarded the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation for the fourth time in a row – one of the very few within the construction sector it says.
Two consortia have been shortlisted to deliver the final package of Stage 1 works to provide a direct rail link to Melbourne Airport. CPB Contractors have teamed up with SMEC Australia and FCC Construction has partnered with Martinus Rail, Arcadis, and BG&E to vie for the project.
Gamuda, along with Laing O’Rourke and DT Infrastructure, will build stations for the Sydney Metro West project at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, and Hunter Street. Early works will begin at North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays this month and major station construction is due to commence by the end of 2026.
