Construction workers are currently craning 12 super-T concrete beams into place for a regional bridge in central NSW.
Abergeldie Contractors’ construction crews are working to replace the existing timber truss structure of the Warroo Bridge, 46 km west of Forbes.
The $15.3 million project was approved after investigations found the existing narrow structure had deteriorated and was unable to be preserved. The timber crossing over the Lachlan River has been in operation for 116 years, since 1909.
Preliminary earthworks for the replacement bridge began last September and construction commenced in March this year with piling now complete.
Work to install the precast, prestressed 25-tonne super-T beams is taking place across six shifts from 21 July until 8 August, Monday to Friday, according to TfNSW Acting Regional Director West Paul Polansky.
The 12 vertical piles that have been driven into the riverbank and riverbed provide the foundation for the new Warroo Bridge, he said, and the 12 Super T beams will be installed on top of the piles and bridge columns to support the bridge deck.
The new Warroo Bridge is expected to be open to traffic mid-2026.
