Sun shines on Qld tenders

Queensland is about to release 52 tenders for design and construction projects along the Bruce Highway, with even more in the pipeline to follow.

The upcoming release of the tenders are for projects under the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program. There will be 40 construction and 12 design tenders to support the delivery of safety upgrades in the sunshine state.

In addition, 10 projects are already underway in Central Queensland – construction having started on seven, and another three to commence in June.

The 52 tenders will include replacement of three narrow bridges in Far North Queensland at Five Mile, Little Moresby, and Boobah Creeks. They will also progress 100 kilometres of pavement strengthening, over 200 kilometres of wide centre line treatment, five new overtaking lanes, 13 intersection upgrades, and two highway rest areas.

On top of the tenders, a substantial program of works which will also come to market in the next 12 months, according to the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Catherine King. These include:

  • replacement of eight narrow bridges between Ayr and Townsville, and Ingham and Innisfail, and at Palm Creek, St Margaret Creek, Emmett Creek, Mackenzie Creek, and Alligator Creek
  • nine initial new overtaking lanes at various locations between Gin Gin and Benaraby, Benaraby and Rockhampton, and Townsville and Ingham
  • more than 145km of pavement strengthening
  • more than 300km of wide centre line treatment
  • 23 intersection upgrades
  • Two new rest areas near Kolanga.
