Piling has begun on the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide with almost 300 piles to be installed over the coming months.
Starting earlier in August, 287 concrete piles will be installed over the next three months, to support the columns of the new clinical building for the New WCH project.
The piles measure between 16 and 31 metres in length. To enable the installation of the piles, two specialist piling rigs have been brought on-site, along with a team of engineers, operators, and experts.
Two Silver members of the Concrete Institute of Australia, KBR and WGA, are working in partnership to provide structural and civil engineering design of the main clinical building, central energy plant and associated BioMed City precinct works.
The two companies are working alongside the architectural consortium of BLP, Bates Smart, Grieve Gillett Architects, and TCL, and the Pirku Design building engineering services consortium of Institute Gold member Aurecon, LUCID Consulting Engineers, and BR+A Consulting Engineers.
The new works begin as construction continues to rapidly progress on the 1300-space car park for the hospital. With the roof now complete, the installation of more than 1700 façade panels is expected to be completed soon.
Just under 96% of the total on-site labour for the New WCH build has been performed by local workers, the South Australia Government said.
