As construction of the Singleton Bypass reaches the one-year mark, all six bridges are under construction with much of the long Hunter Floodplain bridge already done.
Two of the new bridges are providing an alternate route for heavy vehicles working on the projects, according to NSW Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison, and the 1.6 km-long Hunter Floodplain Bridge is now 80% complete.
Acciona Construction Australia was awarded the design and construction contract in November 2023, and had major construction underway by early September 2024.
In addition to the work on the six bridges for the bypass, around 500,000 cubic metres of earthworks have been placed across the eight-kilometre alignment, the council’s new water pump station is nearing completion, and peak work is underway on drainage, utilities’ relocation, pavements, noise walls, and safety screens.
Over the past 12 months, more than 1300 construction workers have been active across the entire project, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Catherine King, revealed.
The long-awaited $700 million project on the New England Highway in NSW will remove one of the Hunter Valley’s longest-standing bottlenecks, eliminating 15,000 vehicles a day from Singleton’s CBD, and motorists able to avoid five sets of traffic lights.
