David Huggett, Principal Engineer - Bridges and Structures, SMEC
David has seventeen years’ experience in the structural design of bridges and other transport structures. He is involved in a variety of aspects of the bridge and transport structures life-cycle; including feasibility studies, reference and tender design, detailed design and assessment and strengthening. With extensive experience designing and providing on-site technical advice, of remedial works for damaged structures, including bridges and tunnels and working on large-scale infrastructure projects in Australia and overseas, David is currently a Principal Engineer at SMEC and is based in Melbourne.
David's presentation will consider the use of precast concrete in bridge construction, with examples of how precast concrete elements are widely used in bridge construction in Australia and overseas, discussing their advantages and disadvantages.
Vivek Sethi, Senior Structural Engineer, CAF Consulting
Vivek has 20 years of experience in the structural design and construction of buildings and bridges across various continents. He has designed small commercial buildings through to large span aircraft hangars and some iconic structures in the US, such as the Transbay Transit Centre building in San Francisco and the KAFD station on Riyadh Metro in the Middle East. He has worked on both consultant and client side and has extensive experience in concept design, detailed design, feasibility studies, condition assessment and remedial works. Vivek is currently the structural team leader at CAF Consulting and is based in Shepparton.
Vivek’s presentation will explore the use of precast concrete in buildings as load-bearing structural elements and architectural façade panels in Australia and overseas. Also, it will explore the use of Ultra High Performance Concrete architectural façades.
Lukas Toman, Engineer BD VIC, SA and TAS, Reinforced Earth
Lukas has 13 years experience in the construction industry predominately in project management and construction of buildings and infrastructure. He has been involved around precast concrete for the majority of this time in roles with project management, quality management, estimating and project development or solution feasibilities. Lukas is currently the regional representative for Reinforced Earth, is based in Melbourne and liaises with consultants, contractors and other stakeholders specifically in regards to earth retaining structures on infrastructure projects/upgrades in Victoria & Interstate.
Lukas’ presentation will cover: Value in high volume and enhancements in a controlled environment, improved safety, program benefits, architectural features and hybrid precast solutions.
