This seminar will examine the growing role of precast concrete in delivering efficient, high-quality and sustainable construction outcomes. Topics will include design for manufacture and assembly, quality control, logistics, installation and the benefits of off-site production in reducing program risk and improving safety. Case studies will demonstrate how precast solutions are being successfully applied across buildings and infrastructure projects, offering attendees practical guidance on maximising value through precast construction.As a hybrid event, the seminar will be conducted in person at RMIT and will also be live streamed throughout Victoria and the rest of Australia. Reinforcement connections
Andreas will be presenting on reinforcement connections, with a particular focus on headed anchors commonly used in precast construction to ensure continuity of reinforcement when connecting precast elements with cast-in-situ concrete members.
The presentation will provide an overview of the solutions available in the Australian market, outline the relevant codes and standards that apply, and highlight non-compliant practices that are still frequently observed in industry applications.
Geoff Fletcher, Euro Precast
Good & bad engineering in precast construction
Geoff will explain actual examples where good engineering has made precast construction more successful, AND examples where poor engineering has caused problems! The difference is the quality of applied engineering. Topics to be covered include - use of strongbacks; staging of construction & loading of grouted joints; lifting of double story elements; compliant reinforcement in connections; temporary bracing.
Elena Nenasheva, Precast Design Services Manager at ITW Concrete Systems
Practical Lessons in Precast Design and Construction
I will share practical lessons drawing on real project experience. The presentation will cover key challenges in handling complex-shaped elements and important considerations for constructability. It will include reinforcement detailing with temporary works stages in mind, as well as common detailing features, critical points to consider, the impact of construction sequencing on design decisions, with a focus on improving coordination.

Andreas Boomkamp, National Technical Manager, PSA Group
Andreas Boomkamp is the National Technical Manager at PSA and a Chartered Structural Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. His career has focused extensively on anchorage and connection solutions in concrete, working with leading international suppliers across Germany, the United States, and Australia.
He is an active contributor to the Australian engineering community, serving as a member of several industry associations and technical committees dedicated to building products and standards.
With his strong technical background and global industry experience, Andreas brings practical insight and deep expertise to today’s seminar.
Geoff Fletcher, Temporary Works Engineer, Euro Precast
Geoff is a chartered engineer and is registered in Victoria & Queensland for civil / structural engineering. He has broad design, research and construction experience, particularly regarding precast concrete and concrete anchorage systems. He is a member of Australian Standards committees for AS 3600 (Concrete Structures), AS 3850 (Prefabricated Concrete Elements), WorkSafe Victoria’s working group to revise the Industry Standard for prefabricated concrete construction (Blue Book), and is a member of the fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete) Task Group 2.9 re Anchorage into Concrete. He has worked closely with Australia’s major precast industry association (National Precast) for over 20 years and is also an active member of the Forensic Engineering Society Australia. He is currently the in-house temporary works engineer for a major precaster in Melbourne.
Elena Nenasheva, Precast Design Services Manager at ITW Concrete Systems
Elena is a civil engineer with over seven years of experience in precast concrete and structural connection systems, including both post-installed and cast-in anchoring solutions. She holds a B(Hons) in Civil Engineering (Russia) and a postgraduate qualification from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Continuing her career with ITW, Elena relocated to Australia in 2023, where she leads the Precast Design Services team and supports engineering delivery across the ANZ region. She is involved in the industry, contributing to standards public commentary and the NPCAA Engineering Working Group - Practice Note The design and erection of prefabricated concrete elements with significant openings or thin sections (draft), and is a member of professional bodies across New Zealand and Australia.
