Defect Identification: When Things Go Wrong
Summary: Construction defects can have significant impacts on safety, performance, project delivery, and long-term asset value. This presentation series explores how to identify and assess defects, determine their criticality through risk-based assessment, and understand the true cost of poor quality when issues are left unaddressed. Using practical examples from real projects, attendees will gain insights into common defects, effective assessment methodologies, and strategies for making informed decisions that minimise risk and improve project outcomes.
The webinar will run, as a live presentation, from 2.00pm to approximately 3.00pm (AEST). It is conducted online on the Zoom platform and delegates will be emailed login details and a password for this webinar prior to the event.

Speaker Bio's:
Rebecca Newby is a Civil Engineer with 15 years of experience in durability assessment for major projects worldwide (Australia, UK, Middle East). Her primary expertise is in concrete durability modelling, non-destructive evaluation of structures and assessment of the remaining life of concrete structures. She has worked on durability assessments for large infrastructure projects including Sydney Metro, High Speed 2, Thames Tideway, Neom Vault and Hinkley.
Christopher Drage is a Quality Professional with over 20 years of experience in the delivery of major and mega infrastructure projects throughout Australia. He specializes in CMT, concrete technology, material science, quarry operations, thermal management, paving, ground investigation, piling, precast, surveillance, workmanship, defect management, and training. He has worked on projects including HHWA, ECD, NH2U, CTD, W2B, NCP, TNR3, RW, CTP, and CWO.
