Event Summary
Concreting in Hot Weather.
Hot weather is one of the most demanding and challenging conditions to place concrete. This webinar invites three experienced practitioners to discuss their experience and share their knowledge on how to approach and successfully manage the problem. They reference specific projects in North Western Australia where they’ve been required to place concrete on days with sweltering ambient temperatures up to 50oC. The three speakers will approach the problem from the aspects of concrete supply, managing the material and managing the placing process.
PRESENTERS:
Michael McCallion, Jason Cichon and Martyn Compton.
PRESENTATION DETAILS:
The webinar will be presented in three sections:
Concrete Supply in Hot Weather. Michael McCallion, Heidelberg Materials.
Synopsis: This presentation provides insight into hot weather concreting from a concrete supplier's perspective, focusing on the controls to ensure that concrete withstands the extreme heat of Australia’s climate. These controls include: mix designs, production methods, and testing.
Managing Concrete in Hot Weather. Jason Cichon, Master Builders Solutions.
Synopsis: This presentation will cover the impact of hot weather on water demand and how to monitor and adjust for temperature variations. It will also discuss strategies for managing slump retention, concrete set-time and plastic shrinkage in hot weather.
Placing Concrete in Hot Weather. Martyn Compton, BGC
Synopsis: This presentation will delve into the challenges of hot weather concrete placement, with a particular focus on thin-section concrete. It will explore the problem from multiple angles, including cement chemistry and physical perspectives, and discuss the key drivers from a concrete standpoint. Attendees will gain insights into the impact on customers and practical strategies for managing these issues, as well as the author’s personal experiences in the field.
