Event Summary
As the construction industry shifts towards sustainable practices, the concept of the circular economy plays a crucial role. In traditional linear economies, materials flow in a "cradle to grave" pattern, leading to resource depletion and waste accumulation. However, the circular economy emphasises minimizing waste, reusing resources, and closing material loops to create a sustainable, regenerative system. In concrete construction, this approach addresses resource efficiency, reduces carbon footprints, and extends the lifecycle of structures.
Typically, in concrete, the key concepts of the circular economy include design for longevity and reuse, material recovery and recycling, reduction of waste, use of renewable or recycled resources, and lifecycle thinking. Our seminar will go in depth with these concepts and consider what is happening now in the concrete industry.
