The CIA NEXGen group and CIA Victoria invite you to join us for Careers in Construction and Engineering to hear from three industry professionals who’ll share what went right, what went wrong and what went side-ways as they forged out a career in the real-world. This event will appeal to anyone curious about what happens outside the cosy safety net of university.
This years's event is hosted by the Swinburne University and tickets are free but registration is essential.

Echo Wang, Sustainability Materials Professional, NTRO
Echo Wang is a Senior Materials and Durability Engineer at Mott MacDonald and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Echo specialises in durability engineering, sustainable construction materials, and whole-of-life carbon assessment for infrastructure assets. Holding a PhD in Civil Engineering, Echo has experience spanning consulting, research, and industry, with a focus on translating innovative research into practical engineering solutions.
Echo has supported major transport and infrastructure projects across Australia, providing expertise in durability design, material assessment, asset remediation, and low-carbon concrete solutions. Prior to joining Mott MacDonald, Echo worked at NTRO/ARRB on projects related to pavement decarbonisation, life cycle carbon assessment, and sustainable materials.
Melanie Langlois, Melanie Langlois, Civil Engineering, Concrete Specialist – Bouygues Construction Australia
Doctoral Researcher PhD Student – Swinburne University of Technology
Melanie Langlois is a Concrete Specialist and Chartered Professional Engineer at Bouygues Construction Australia (BYCA), and a final-year PhD candidate at Swinburne University of Technology. Melanie specialises in concrete engineering, construction quality, and low-carbon concrete technology, with experience spanning site delivery, technical design, and applied research.
Melanie began her career with Losinger Marazzi SA, a Bouygues Construction subsidiary in Switzerland, before joining BYCA in 2018 to work on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project across various disciplines including concrete engineering, construction delivery, and design support roles. She now provides concrete expertise across other BYCA projects and tenders, including the Torrens to Darlington project in Adelaide, while completing her PhD research on calcined clay–based geopolymer concrete.
