Event Summary
Boral is opening the doors to its Materials Technical Services Laboratory at Baulkham Hills for Members of the CIA and industry practitioners in NSW to visit and learn how and why concrete is tested under a strict quality-controlled process.
Concrete mix design is a science. Any quality pre-mix concrete poured on site or mixed for precast concrete elements is a result of a well-designed process to ensure that it is fit for purpose. However, science is ever-evolving and concrete is no different. New or different testing methods, raw materials, processes and designs mean concrete is continually being scrutinised.
Boral's high-performance products ENVISIA and Aspire concrete were developed at the laboratory. It's ability to measure compressive strength of concrete in excess of 120MPa, test for modulus of elasticity, drying shrinkage and creep were crucial to the development of these high-performance products. Boral have also been working on some non-destructive ways for measuring strength and maturity.
The Institute is pleased to offer Members and other industry practitioners the chance to see how construction materials are tested by the Boral Material Technical Services Laboratory.
TOUR REQUIREMENTS: Safety boots/covered-in shoes are required for all tour participants. Boral will provide safety glasses, high-visibility vests, hard hats etc. If you have your own PPE, please bring it along.
