The construction team has recently finished digging 403 piles to support the walls of a new road underpass in Dandenong, Victoria.
The work is part of the Webster Street Level Crossing Removal Project to remove one of the most dangerous crossings in Melbourne.
More than 38,000 tonnes of soil have been excavated, with about two-thirds of it removed for the new underpass.
After this, the construction team will build the base slab for the underpass, apply waterproofing to the walls and floor, and install a new drainage system.
Once waterproofing is complete, architectural walls will be installed followed by road surfacing, line marking, lighting, and safety barriers.
The new road connecting Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond Roads will open later this year – two years ahead of schedule!
With Webster Street closed at the level crossing since October last year, and the boom gates, which caused havoc with peak hour traffic, are now a thing of the past on the Pakenham and Cranbourne rail lines.
The project also delivered a new walking and cycling path along Webster Street, linking with the Dandenong Creek Trail.
