The construction tender is out for a new flyover to complete the Albany Ring Road – a project ‘gamechanger’ for contractors and suppliers.
Following finalisation of the $60 million project’s design and site investigations, construction of the flyover will begin later this year.
The flyover will be at the intersection of Menang Drive and Chester Pass just north of Albany situated on the southern tip of Western Australia. The state government said the project will maximise the benefits of the Albany Ring Road and improve safety of a critical section of the regional freight route.
The project involves the construction of a grade separated interchange south of the current intersection of Chester Pass Road and Menang Drive. The new interchange will allow southbound vehicles to exit Chester Pass Road via an elevated ramp, passing back over the top of Chester Pass Road via a bridge and connecting into Menang Drive westbound.
WA Minister for Road Safety and Great Southern, Reece Whitby, called the Albany Ring Road project a ‘gamechanger for contractors and suppliers’.
“Economic growth has increased … with approximately $50 million already invested in local businesses, supporting jobs and investment,” Mr Whitby said. “Approximately $6 million was spent on Aboriginal businesses and suppliers, while 10.5% of the construction workforce hours were completed by local Aboriginal people.”
The flyover is expected to be completed in 2027.
