Light rail 2A beginning

The next stage of Canberra’s light rail project is ramping up and establishing sites ready for construction to begin shortly.

In January a new construction compound was established on the corner of London Circuit and Constitution Avenue in the City Hill car park.

From February, Canberra Metro will commence construction activity on London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue.

A site will be established under the Parkes Way bridge to aid future works as Stage 2A gets underway, expanding the network to three new stops at Edinburgh Avenue, City South, and Commonwealth Park.

Plans for Stage 2A include construction of a new bridge over Parkes Way for the light rail. This will be situated between the two Commonwealth Avenue bridges.

Also included will be dedicated or separated paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

An expanded light rail depot in Mitchell for Canberra Metro has also been completed.
