DA approvals skyrocket

Lismore is set for a construction boom according to the local council with almost $50 million in development applications approved in just four weeks.

After three years of recovery following a major flood in 2022, there has been a shift in the northern NSW city’s future outlook, Lismore mayor Steve Krieg says, with more than $46 million DAs across 34 approvals in one month.

“Normally in a good year we would be looking at perhaps $100 million of DAs approved for the Local Government Area, so $46 million in one month is an incredible sign of business confidence in our city,” he said.

Lismore City Council’s (LCC) development application approvals have reached just under $100 million in one quarter and Mr Krieg says the DAs are for new developments not rebuilds.

These include an $8.5 million office development in Lismore’s CBD, a $2.7 million community facility, two large residential DAs from the Arch Diocese, and Stage 2 of the Eastwood Estate valued at $10 million with 176 lots.

In the wake of the 2022 natural disaster, Mr Krieg revealed that the LCC has been deliberately focused on sustainably growing Lismore in terms of population and housing.
