Concrete steps towards new building

The first major concrete pours have been completed for a new building at Tamworth Hospital in NSW, marking a milestone for the project.

Concrete has been poured for the foundations of both a new linkway connecting to the hospital’s existing palliative care unit and the expanded section of the facility, currently under construction.

The new enclosed linkway will provide private access between the Palliative Care Unit, Rehabilitation Unit, and the Acute Services Building.

“Around 30 truckloads of local concrete were used, with more than 200 cubic metres poured on site,” the NSW Government stated.

“With the foundations now laid, the building’s structure will begin to take shape over the coming months.”

When complete, the expanded Nioka Palliative Care Unit will include six new private bedrooms with ensuites, communal and meeting spaces and outdoor areas designed to create a home-like environment.

The project is being delivered by NSW Health Infrastructure, in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District, and regional commercial construction company, North Construction & Building.

Construction of the project is expected to be completed in 2027.
