South Australian-based concrete giant Adbri has applied to the ACCC to acquire ready-mix concrete producer, SA Premix. But that’s not all.
Through its subsidiary Adbri Concrete and Quarries SA, it plans to buy the company along with its subsidiaries, Premix Concrete SA , Seelander Quarries, Clinton Sands, Clinton Quarries, and Adelaide Industrial Sands.
Adbri, a Gold member of the Concrete Institute of Australia, manufactures, imports and supplies various building materials across Australia, including clinker, cement, quicklime, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, concrete masonry products and supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag.
Formerly named Adelaide Brighton, Adbri (now owned by CRH ANZ) was itself bought by Irish building materials company CRH and the Barro Group for $2.1 billion in July 2024.
Adbri will have to wait until 28 August 2025 to see if the Australian Competition Consumer Commission’s informal review gives it the nod for the purchase of SA Premix.
Meanwhile it should hear news from the ACCC on 25 July if its bid, along with Cement Australia, Holcim, and Heidelberg Materials Australia, to buy building materials producer, BGC Cementitious, from the BGC Group is permitted to go ahead after which the four plan to divide up the spoils.
